Well, that started off extreme right? But hear me out and you’ll be on my side in no time. Okay, here’s the story. In mid august my partner and I randomly had a brief conversation about buying a condo. Now we weren’t exactly looking because we are in a fabulous position (rent controlled!) and had no need of new housing. But one day he turned over to me and showed me that a unit in a building a couple streets up was for sale.

Apparently, he had seen it for sale a couple months back, but it was over 600,000$. Yep, you read that right. More than a million dollars for a condo here in Toronto. Insanely crazy. Well, he didn’t bring it up to me then, but then he saw the price drop. From 609k to 589k. Now that was starting to be in our budget a bit more. So, we talked about it.

Turns out I ha always loved this building, and even years ago wondered why type of person live there…. Well let me cut to the chase because I am the type of person that lives there! We went and saw the unit a couple times and in the end of we put an offer in. Then it was accepted. Then the home inspection was done. Then we close yesterday. But here’s where the heartache come in.

The previous owner was the last of the original owners who came together and built the building back in the 1970s. Her home was like a time warp and hadn’t been updated. Lots of lovely real wood pieces throughout her home. And guess what!? The Seller’s agent (it had gone to an estate sale) said that we could have some of her furniture if we wanted. Dear reader, we wanted to keep so many things.

This is one example, a beautiful hutch in a perfect nook.

But then from out of nowhere, the Seller’s agent emailed our and said that the Sellers changed their mind and are keeping everything. What in the actual F-. Like why get our hope up? Maybe they were suspicious that we wanted to keep so many lovely pieces? Maybe it was like a toddler interaction, once we wanted her furniture then they realized that they wanted it? Ya’ll gotta keep your word! Even my three-year-old knows that.

So alas and alack, we did not get to keep any of her beautiful furniture. Woe is me. I was telling my friend about it, and it almost brought me to tears. Finally, we were going to catch a break. Real wood furniture, beautiful MCM pieces. We would have continued her legacy but no. For some reason they were snatched from our hands, and I’m still sour about it.

I’m going to keep my eye on FB market place… maybe they’ll end up selling her stuff?? IDK.
